Staten Islander Calista Iavarone showed no signs of a recent slump Wednesday night as she rolled a career high 830 series in the MisMates Mixed League at Rab’s Country Lanes.
Iavarone, who bowled at Tottenville High School in the mid-2010s, strung together games of 276, 264 and 290 en route to her pinfall, eclipsing her old high of 739 rolled about a year and a half ago.
“There was nothing unusual in practice,” said the 23-year-old, Annadale resident. “I just felt I pretty good after the third frame (of the first) game when I started stringing them (the strikes) together. After that, I said, ‘let’s go!’ “
While it was personal high for the righty, it fell well short of Erin Schneider’s female Island-record of 857 rolled at Showplace Entertainment Center in April of 2019.
Iavarone, who calls Country Lanes her home, averages 203 in the loop. She also was a member of the Scratch Draft Classic at the Dongan Hills center.
After playing an integral part on the Pirates’ unbeaten PSAL city championship squad in 2015 and then graduating from the Huguenot school, Iavarone stepped away from the game to attend The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y.
“I missed bowling, but there was no bowling team at cooking school,” said Iavarone, whose cooking career is on hold as she’s currently the floral manager at Stop & Shop on Hylan Boulevard.
In the meantime, she will concentrate on fancy flower arrangements and rolling big numbers in bowling.
