When the new bowling season started last night, a decision was made to rename a bowling league in honor of a Staten Island Bowling Pioneer, who also served as the leagues’ President for many years. The league formerly known as the Michael Carbonaro Memorial Mixed, will now be known by the Donna Zajac Memorial Mixed League.
Donna is a member of two Halls of Fame for both Superior Performance and Meritorious Service and had dedicated over 50 years of service to the Bowling Community. She served the Staten Island Women’s Bowling Association, now the Staten Island USBC, the Staten Island Women’s 600 Club, New York State Women’s Bowling Association, New York State Women’s 600 Club, New York State Women’s 700 Club, the Staten Island Bowling Hall of Fame, in many capacities, plus she was responsible for the operations of many bowling leagues on the Island over the years.
On the first night of bowling (September 10, 2017) Derek Gilbert lead all scorers with a 251 and Tom Velleca rolled a 241.
